Another new update came to Instagram this summer: Instagram TV. Users are now able to upload vertical videos up to an hour long. Instagram is hoping to compete with YouTube and other video-heavy social networks. There is no doubt that video is changing social media. Is Instagram TV a good tool for your insurance agency?
What You Need to Know
- 10-60 minutes
- Vertical video
- No advertising
- Call to action
Currently not everyone can upload a video for the full 60 minutes. Unless you have a large audience or a verified account, your video length will be capped at 10 minutes. However, anyone can create a channel and become a creator. You do have to have the IGTV app to post and view video content. Inside IGTV, you can’t yet search for videos, but the app recommends videos at the bottom of the current video that is being watched. The app is similar to a mix of Snapchat and YouTube. As with Snapchat, at any moment you can swipe and go straight to another video. This means that engagement is very competitive. If your viewer is bored, all they have to do is swipe to move on.
There currently isn’t a way to advertise on IGTV, but you can add a call to action similar to the Instagram Stories’, “swipe up for more.” It is expected that Instagram will eventually offer a way for advertisers to use the new platform.
Is IGTV Right for You?
IGTV is still in its experimental stages. Influencers and brands are already jumping in and competing to be the first to “make it big” on IGTV. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the interface. If you’re not already using Snapchat or Instagram Stories for your insurance agency, then one of those platforms may be a good place to start using video. IGTV gives the viewer the sense of a live video. It doesn’t require a fancy setup or much post-processing. Most videos are created completely via a smartphone. In summary, if you’re already using video to promote your agency, go ahead and give IGTV a shot and try it out. If you’re new to video, you may achieve better initial results by using a more established platform like Snapchat or Instagram Stories. Have you tried Instagram TV? If so, leave a comment below!
